Since golf carts are considered low-speed vehicles (LSVs) according to Florida law, they are permitted on roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less. Golf carts are not permitted on the main highways or on most bridges connecting the islands. You can legally rent and drive golf carts throughout Old Town, Duval Street, and the cruise port area, making them a fun and practical way to explore the island.

  • Driven only by licensed drivers (valid U.S. or international license required)
  • Allowed only on roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or lower
  • Just like a car, drinking and driving a golf cart is illegal in Key West. Golf carts follow the same DUI laws as other motor vehicles, and violations can result in fines, arrest, or loss of license.
